A couple of words about yourself
Single Dad from Brisbane, two daughters, looking after Mum, I like hiking, have a gym routine and read military history.
Tell us about your first job and what it taught you
I road track work (horse racing) six mornings a week and learnt the power of saving and the power of cash for large purchases
What is your day job?
I am an IT Manager for a State Government department. Like any job, there are good days and challenging days. Best thing, seeing a plan execute well or working with the latest technology.
Tell us how to save more money
Juggle the budget – don’t buy something unless it is covered under the budget, e.g. by not buying coffee for six months, I purchased a new camera for no impact on my spending. I also suggest changing discretionary spending habits (groceries, car running costs etc) to afford gym membership. I also gave up Foxtel so my daughter could attend Taekwondo classes etc.
Do you save money or spend money more frequently?
Both; I like spending money when there is value for money, a great deal or significant discount. I like to save to one day achieve financial independence.
What would you like to do with $50K?
Disperse $30,000 over a portfolio (cash, shares, property) investment; $5,000 on some short, exotic, educational trip/holiday, $10,000 injected the mortgage and $5,000 on other family or charity contributions.
